ACTIVITIES
Sociological Association has made the following research, scientific meeting and publication activities in line with its purpose of establishment which is "to contribute to the understanding, development and expansion of sociology in Turkey; to carry out serious and responsible activities and publications; and to establish cooperation and solidarity among sociologists".

  10. On the 4th Thursday of every month since 1994, "Conversation Meetings" have been organised in the Association headquarters in Ankara participated by members and guests where scientific activities and research results are being discussed.

Festival for Making a Model for the Socio-cultural and Economic Development of Southeastern Region.
Upon invitation from Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Demeği and cooperation with the government and volunteer organisations. İdil/Sımak, 11-12 October 1997.

1st Conference on Finding Solutions to Problems of Turkey. With the participation of 18 Non-governmental Organizations. Ankara, 24-27 December 1997. Apart from the conference organization, five association members have presented their scientific work.

Dimension of Inspecting Public Management. Organized with Devlet Denetim Elemanları Derneği and Kamu Yönetimi Uygulamaları Derneği. 8 May 1998 TODAİE/Ankara.

Participation in the symposium which was held in order to identify the dynamics required for the social, cultural and economic development of rural areas so that "Bizim İdil Project", initiated by Çağdaş  Yaşamı  Destekleme  Derneği with eight volunteer organisations,  can be spread to other towns. (30 May 1998, Yıldız Technical University Foundation Maçka Building/İstanbul.

Participation in the 3rd Family Council of the Prime Ministry Family Research Institution on 25-27 May 1994.

Participation in the "Environment Day" celebration pioneered by the Ministry of Environment on 5-7 June 1998. (Ankara and İstanbul).

2nd Conference of Finding Solutions to Problems of Turkey. D. Seminars included in the Scope of the Project
  1.  A series of training seminars for rural women (Project executer: Prof. Dr. Yakın ERTÜRK), Sociological Association, 1996-1997. Two seminars were held in Şanlıurfa in cooperation with GAP Regional Development Administration and in Sinop/Durağan town in cooperation with Turkish Development Foundation, supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The seminars were aimed at providing rural women the opportunity to actively participate in identifying their problems and possible solutions in order to achieve environment friendly and sustainable development. In the seminars, experts led by Prof. Dr. Yakın ERTÜRK worked with women from the rural areas. In both regions, there were about 180 participants from various villages. The project, which found big reflections in the printed media, was also filmed to be used as training material.
  2. Project for Raising Women's Awareness within the Framework of Developing Eastern Anatolia. (Project manager: Asst. Prof. Vildan AKAN). For this project, a total of eight literacy courses were opened in 1997 in two villages and 6 shanty towns in the central towns of Erzurum and Sivas, with support from HIMOS (Institution of Financial Support for Hindu and Muslim Development Programs-Netherlands) Foundation and successful participants were awarded certificates at the end of the course.
  3. A total of eight Association Bulletins were issued, two in 1993 and annually since 1994.
  4. Our Association has been publishing since 1997 the supervised journal titled "Sociological Research Journal in order to increase communication among local sociologists, to allow a larger number of people and institutions access to the produced information, to set a standard in academic production and to carry the work performed in Turkey to the international literature. The journal has been published as one volume, two issues since 1999 and the work on the second volume is about the be complete.
